Starting a venture is thrilling, but it’s not always smooth sailing—especially when illness sneaks up on you. Recently, I found myself under the weather, feeling torn between resting and keeping my site running. I asked the question, How to manage life when you’re sick. This site, a real full time job and two kiddos. Here’s what I learned about balancing recovery with this wonderful site and why taking care of yourself ultimately benefits your creative and motherhood journey.
First and foremost, it’s essential to prioritize your health. Life can be demanding, and when you’re unwell, your energy is better spent on rest and recovery. By stepping back and allowing yourself the space to heal, you’ll return to your work with renewed energy and fresh ideas.
One of the tools I wish I relied on was prescheduling articles, advice, etc. I did not so now google will not want to rank me well. I do like to be authentic and in the moment, but when my nose and the tissue are insuperable it’s hard to type out a word. Answer questions or show up. I wish I had some of my typical content ready to go in the meantime.
And here’s a lesson I didn’t expect to resonate so deeply: honesty. Honesty to my spouse about my limits when I am ill instead of expecting him to read my mind and I just mumble angrily under my breath. Honesty to my children. Obviously honesty with myself. The world did not fall apart yet.
Ultimately, being unwell has taught me that if you don’t take a break when you need one your body will take one for you. Your health fuels your motherhood, career and giving yourself grace during tough moments ensures you can come back stronger.
Also a little bit of Amazon shopping didn’t hurt.
Although with the economy these days I may be making some returns.
