28 Days to Declutter Challenge

This IBd Life (2)

I decided to write down some reflections on beginning my declutter challenge. I am taking 28 days to declutter my house as it is cluttering my brain. This is not coming from a naturaly neat person, but my ADD is making it hard for me to concentrate.

I approached the declutter challenge out of necessity. But, wow I am so happy I bit the bullet. My mind is feeling more at ease. It’s not that there is less clutterin my house, rather I know I have a set time to deal with the mess.

Here are some things I noticed:

  1. I am less anxious when I notice clutter in the rooms, tables etc. I know I will get to it. When I don’t have an orderly list of when I am going to tackle something, there is a peice inside me that wants to tackle it right away.
  2. When decluttering, I get less distracted of trying to declutter all the places. See, when I decluttered my junk drawer, I found a bunch of things that needed to go to different areas, which would lead me to try to declutter those areas as well. Which in the end just left a bunch of areas half organized and me upset that I didn’t accomplish anything.
  3. I feel accomplished. Day 2 I was decluttering the countertops. I am happy to say that my countertops are not the biggest issue. I have a lot of counterspace and most things had a place.
  4. I know some people do the one drawer a day challenge. This never worked for me, becuase it didn’t have a beginning or end, and I didn’t feel it would solve my issue. This gives me an end date, with a list of areas that will be organized.
  5. You don’t need to buy out the container store. There I Said it.
28 Days to Declutter -First 3 Days

Day 1

Junk Drawer:

I am including some images just so you can see the beginning and after

Wow I threw out half the junk drawer and I can actually reach the things I need in the junk drawer. The one last thing remaining is what do I do with printed pictures. I do want them as many don’t have a digital copy, but I am not sure if I want another albulm or photo box. I’m taking suggestions.

Day 2

Countertops:

No pictures, and honestly nothing memorable. I put the flour in the right spot, and threw out some old bags.

Day 3:

Fridge:

No pictures. Here I should give credit to my husband. He is pretty good about dumping old food. I did find some old sauces that I threw out. One was a sauce that looked delicious but ended up being nasty. Wasteful, but it also showed me what I buy that ends up going to waste. I wil learn for the future.

All in all I am feeling good about the challenge.
