Mom Brain or Writer’s Block? Let’s Be Honest… It’s February Burnout.

This IBd Life (2)

Moms, tell me I’m not alone here. How does one overcome mom burnout?

I’m on Day 5 of my Declutter Challenge—which is cute, because what that really means is I started it five days ago and haven’t kept up. The laundry pile is growing, my to-do list is judging me, and the motivation I had in January? Gone.

I haven’t written in a while. I’ve been meaning to start an Instagram account for this blog. I’ve been planning to tackle that challenge post. But instead, I’m over here scrolling, snacking, and calling it writer’s block when we all know it’s February Mom Burnout.

Is It Really Writer’s Block… or Just “I Have No Mental Energy” Block?

I could blame my lack of writing on a creative dry spell, but let’s be real—this isn’t about words. It’s about mom life.

It’s about trying to juggle all the things—kids, meals, school schedules, never-ending messes—while also attempting to carve out time for myself. Some days, it feels like my brain is just… done.

And the worst part? Even when I finally get time to sit down and do something for me (like writing), I’m too mentally wiped out to actually start.

Okay, Enough Complaining—Here’s What I’m Doing About It

Instead of waiting for some magical moment of inspiration, I’m committing to a few small, totally doable goals this week:

✔️ Continue the Declutter Challenge (One drawer at a time. No pressure.)
✔️ Make an Instagram account for this blog (Because why am I avoiding this??)
✔️ Write a post about the above challenge (Accountability = everything.)

That’s it. Nothing overwhelming. Just a few small steps to get myself moving.

Because let’s be honest—when you’re in a rut, sometimes just writing down a goal makes it feel way less scary.

Mom Hack: Stop Waiting to Feel Motivated

I know I’m not the only mom who does this. I’ll put something off—starting a project, replying to that text, even tackling the laundry—because I just don’t feel like it. And then, ironically, not doing it makes me feel worse

So, here’s the hack: Action comes first. Motivation comes second.

Pick one tiny thing you can do right now. Something ridiculously easy.
✔️ Unfollow three accounts that drain your energy.
✔️ Set a five-minute timer and clear off your kitchen counter.
✔️ Text a mom friend just to say hey.

Because sometimes, all we need is one small win to shake off the funk.

Let’s Hold Each Other Accountable

So tell me—what’s one small, achievable goal you’re setting this week? Drop it in the comments, and let’s tackle this February Burnout together.

And if you need a little extra motivation? Come find me on Instagram. (You know, once I actually make the account. 😉)
