How to Travel with a Toddler

This IBd Life (2)

I just traveled across the country (the US) with my toddler. Yes my husband was with me, but we also had another child, so we divided and conqured. (Or so I hope). Travel with a toddler on a plane can be exaughsting and a never again moment. Or it can be ok. I won’t say it will be like going on a cruise alone, but you CAN leave with a smile.

5 ways to make toddler travel less soul sucking

  1. Lower your Expectations! You can not expect to travel with a toddler on a plane and expect to feel like you are alone. Surprise: You are not!
    • Don’t expect to enjoy inflight entertainment
    • You may not enjoy an inflight meal
    • You will watch your toddler in awe of their curiosity (Depending on toddler age)
  2. Get the right travel gear! I know everyone has different budgets but you don’t need to splurge on all the suggestions. Some people like babywearing, some people like strollers, it also depends if you are buying your toddler a seat.
    • A lightweight car seat, this is our spare, its very budget friendly, much easier than taking our Graco Extend2Fit through the airport
    • A travel stroller, one that ideally fits through the airplane aisle. If this is not in your buget don’t let it trigger you. ( I have the Bugaboo Butterfly that I got with the 20% off from the car seat trade in and 15% registry discount)
    • A tush baby or another wrap you prefer. My toddler doesn’t like to be in a carrier so I would imagine the Tushbaby would be better.
    • Minimal amount of bags and stuff as possible. I actually have a diaper bag that I can wear on my back.
    • The Stokke Jet looks super cool
  3. Mothercould has some really good toy ideas, like suction cups to play on the window of the plane.
  4. On threads I posted the question, and I got a really great response from ChartsACourse.
    • “Getting to the airport with plenty of time (especially when your toddler does everything you don’t want them to do 🙃) bringing snacks and small presents/new toys, letting them run and explore the airport as much as they can before getting on the plane”
  5. Lots of positive affirmations.

As a mom community, what are your tips?
